Our Story

About THEMA Health Services

Our dedication is providing quality in-home care to the elderly throughout the Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale, and Las Vegas areas.

Theresa A. Lungwitz, RN, B.S., and CEO of THEMA Health Services, has a 30-year background as a home health nurse, with years of experience also in hospice, hospital ER, ICU, and Neo Natal Units.

Theresa moved to Arizona in 1996 from Virginia to found Home Health Resources as a state-licensed, Medicare-certified home health agency. In what was believed to be a temporary move, Theresa asked her friend Dr. Margaret Irby to help with the business. As fate would have it, temporary became permanent and Dr. Margaret became the CFO of the company.

In 2004 they continued their journey by starting The Crossing: Hospice Care as a state-licensed Medicare-certified hospice agency and began to provide hospice care to the Phoenix area. In 2009, Theresa and Dr. Margaret expanded The Crossing: Hospice Care to the Globe/Miami area.

Shortly after starting The Crossing Hospice Care, a nonprofit tax exempt foundation was formed as an extension of the services to the patients, their loved ones and members of the community. The mission of The Crossing Hospice Foundation is to provide financial and emotional support to those recovering from a loss of someone close to them as well as offer support for children who are suffering in our community.

Theresa realized a major gap between home health care and hospice, and in 2011 Palliative Care Services was created to help those suffering with a chronic illness.

With three trustworthy companies existing separately, Theresa’s next mission was to unite them, thus becoming THEMA Health Services. THEMA, a derivative of Theresa and Dr. Margaret’s names, (THE – from Theresa and MA – from Margaret) serves as a continued reminder of the teamwork the companies were founded on! THEMA Health Services is a unified and inclusive compassionate care company offering multiple services: home nursing and rehabilitation, hospice care, palliative care and a hospice foundation.

In an effort to grow and expand their hospice care to larger communities, they set their sights on Prescott. Sadly, their adventure was cut short when Dr. Margaret unexpectedly passed away in 2009. Theresa pushed forward to fulfill their dream to care for more families by opening Maggie’s Hospice in 2013.

THEMA Health Services, together with Maggie’s Hospice, strives to provide patient and family centered services that are responsive to the needs and exceed expectations of those we care for. We realize that our work expands farther than the four walls of our offices. Each member of our team — from office staff to the direct care staff — is critical in delivering exceptional patient care. Our mission is to provide care and services that are responsive to the needs and exceed expectations of those we care for – Care You Can TRUST!
